Open-air panorama facing the mountains
Yunosato Okada is a day-use facility of the Hotel Okada group in the Yumoto-chaya district at the back of Hakone-Yumoto. From the 4th-floor bathhouse the Hakone mountains spread out beyond the Takidori valley, with several open-air tubs (lying bath, waterfall bath, pot baths) and a sauna. Unusually for Hakone it stays open till 23:00 and offers early-morning bathing 6–9 a.m. (¥1,000 incl. towel), so it slots easily around your itinerary. On weekday afternoons it can have fewer than ten guests — a quiet find.
Tips & cautions
- Early-morning bathing (6–9 a.m.) costs about 60% of the regular price and includes a towel, but may be cancelled the morning after a maintenance closure (check the official site).
- Sauna runs from 12:00 and closes at 22:00.
- The road from the station is very narrow — take care if driving; the shuttle is easier.
- Asoview same-day tickets save ¥300.
- No meal plans over New Year (28 Dec–8 Jan).
Getting there
From Hakone-Yumoto Station: ryokan loop bus route A ~10 min, Hotel Okada shuttle ~5 min, or ~25 min uphill on foot. By car ~5 min from Sukumogawa IC; free parking for 70.

Five minutes by shuttle from Hakone-Yumoto Station, a day-use-only bathhouse in the hills along the Sukumo River. Terraced rock rotenburo, a cave bath and a lukewarm pool invite long soaks. No reservation needed; rest rooms, restaurants and a reading lounge make it easy to stay half a day. Tattoos not permitted.
Hakone Kowakien Yunessun
Two halves: the swimsuit spa zone 'Yunessun' and the traditional nude 'Mori no Yu'. Wine baths, coffee baths and water slides make it family-friendly and an easy first onsen for visitors. Tattoos allowed if covered with a sticker. Dynamic pricing in 2026: passport (both zones) from ¥3,500, swimsuit zone from ¥2,500, Mori no Yu only from ¥1,500.

Three minutes by free shuttle from Hakone-Yumoto. A farmhouse-style day spa whose 19 private open-air rooms are the draw (reserve ahead). The löyly sauna sessions in the main bath are popular too.
