Yunokuchi Onsen (Yumoto Sansō)

A hidden spring on the site of an old copper mine in the hills of Kumano, Mie. The abundant water is entirely free-flowing with no dilution or heating; the clear sodium-chloride spring warms you to the core. The cedar-scented bathhouse, rebuilt in 2015, has an indoor bath, an open-air area with standing, half-body and lying baths, and a private bath for ¥1,080 per hour. Admission ¥600 for adults, open 09:00–21:00 (last entry 20:15), irregular closures. A trolley train through the old mine tunnel (about 10 minutes) links it with Iruka Onsen Seiryūsō and is a famous ride in itself — but as of 2026 it is suspended for safety inspections, so check ahead. Half-price admission on the 26th of each month. About 40 minutes by car from Kumano-Ōdomari IC.

Yumoto Sakakibarakan — Yu-no-sho Day Spa
Sakakibara Onsen was praised in the 11th-century Pillow Book as one of Japan's three finest baths. Tucked in the hills of Tsu, it flourished as a purification stop for pilgrims to Ise Shrine and is known as a 'beauty bath'. The day-use wing of this old ryokan lets you feel the silky pH 9.6 house spring unheated in the dedicated 'gensen' tub. ¥1,000 (face towel included, 2-hour limit). Shuttle from Sakakibara-Onsenguchi Station.
Nagashima Onsen Yuami no Shima
One of Japan's largest day-spa complexes, sharing a resort with Nagashima Spa Land and Nabana no Sato. Roughly 33,000 m² of open-air baths landscaped after the Oirase stream and Kurobe gorge, with 17 natural-spring baths for men and women plus six rock-bath rooms. A 50-minute direct bus from Nagoya's Meitetsu Bus Center makes it popular with families and overseas visitors combining it with the amusement park or outlet mall. Admission ¥2,100; open until 23:00 on weekends.
