A “sky rotenburo” above the forest
Sekisuitei, a large Noguchi-group hotel near the entrance to the onsen street, puts its baths on the upper floors: the 8F “sky bathhouse” in the Kobushi wing and the 7F “sky rotenburo” in the Icho wing look down over forest and mountains, spectacular under snow. Day bathing runs in two slots, early morning 5–9 and daytime 11–19 — a rare early opening among Noboribetsu hotels, handy if you arrive on the first bus.
Tips & cautions
- During weekly cleaning (table above) one gender’s bath is closed — avoid Tue/Fri mornings if you want the rotenburo.
- Towels not included (rental ¥300). Cards OK.
- Choose this over Sagiriyu (¥500) when you want a view and open air; it is ~10 min on foot from the centre.
- The two bathhouses are in separate wings with long corridors — ask at the lobby.
- Hotel guests bathe 24 h, so mornings can be busy.
Getting there
Donan bus ~13 min from JR Noboribetsu Station to “Noboribetsu Onsen”, then ~10 min on foot; or ~20 min by taxi (Noboribetsu-Onsen-cho 203-1). ~10 min from Noboribetsu-Higashi IC; free parking for 100.
Before you go
- No official tattoo policy is published — ask at reception.
- Ryokan day-use hours are limited and may be suspended in peak season — phone the same morning.
- Last entry is 30–60 minutes before closing.

Hokkaido's flagship onsen ryokan: a vast 5,000 m² bathhouse overlooking Jigokudani with 35 tubs fed by five spring types — sulfur, salt, sulfate and more. Day bathing is accepted from 9:00 to 18:00. An indoor heated pool makes it good for families. Tattoos not permitted.
Yumoto Sagiri-yu
The only bathhouse-style onsen in the middle of Noboribetsu's resort strip. Two spring sources piped from Jigokudani — sulfur and the alum 'eye bath' found nowhere else — for ¥500.
Ōyunuma River natural foot bath
A free foot bath in an actual river of hot spring water flowing out of Ōyunuma pond, at the end of a forest boardwalk. The perfect finish to a Jigokudani walk. Daylight hours; the trail may close in deep snow.
