What onsen cost — from ¥200 communal baths to ¥2,500 resorts
Price is mostly set by who runs the bath. Know the bands and you can judge any price instantly.
Four price bands

Extras
- Bathing tax about ¥150 (sometimes included, sometimes added)
- Locker ¥10–100 (usually refundable)
- Towels ¥200–300 to buy, ~¥300 to rent. Communal baths: bring your own
- Weekend/peak pricing Atami, Ureshino and others add ¥100–400
How to save
- Staying in an onsen town often includes free outer-bath passes (Shibu, Kinosaki, Zao)
- Bath-hopping passes pay off from three baths (Kurokawa ¥1,500, Gero ¥2,500)
- Footbaths are usually free — test the water there first
